The journey begins in Kathmandu before heading to Soti Khola, the traditional starting point of the Manaslu Circuit. The route passes through a series of fascinating villages and settlements, each offering a glimpse into the distinct cultures of the Manaslu region. A major highlight of the trek is the detour into the Tsum Valley, a hidden gem nestled deep within the Manaslu Conservation Area. This secluded valley is known for its rich Tibetan Buddhist heritage, ancient gompas such as Rachen Gompa and Mu Gompa, traditional stone architecture, and warm, hospitable communities. The valley was only opened to trekkers in 2008, and it retains an authentic and unspoiled character rarely found in more popular trekking destinations. Rejoining the Manaslu Circuit, trekkers continue through Samagaon and Samdo before the challenging ascent to Dharamsala, the base camp for the Larkya La Pass crossing. At 5,106 meters (16,752 feet), Larkya La Pass is the highest and most dramatic point of the trek, rewarding those who make the climb with breathtaking panoramic views of Mount Manaslu — the eighth-highest peak in the world — as well as Himlung, Cheo, and numerous other Himalayan giants. The descent leads to Bhimthang and then Dharapani, where the trek concludes before the return drive to Kathmandu. Spanning approximately 20 days, this trek is best suited to experienced trekkers with a solid level of physical fitness and a genuine interest in both high-altitude adventure and Himalayan cultural heritage. Trekkers are encouraged to dress modestly, walk clockwise around mani walls and stupas, remove shoes before entering monasteries, and ask permission before photographing locals or religious sites. Learning a few basic Nepali or Tibetan phrases is appreciated by the local communities.
