🌿 Cultural Note
The Khumbu region is deeply rooted in Sherpa Buddhist culture. Visitors should walk clockwise around mani stones, stupas, and monasteries. Remove shoes before entering monasteries and ask permission before photographing locals or religious sites. If visiting in October or November, the Mani Rimdu festival at Tengboche Monastery is a rare and vibrant celebration of Sherpa heritage through masked dances and rituals. Respecting local customs and dressing modestly near religious sites is greatly appreciated.
