The Dhaulagiri Circuit Trek is a 22-day strenuous adventure through one of the most remote and dramatic landscapes in the Himalayan region of Nepal. Designed for experienced trekkers seeking an expedition-like experience, this circuit route weaves through diverse terrain ranging from lush farming villages in the lower foothills to high alpine pastures, barren rocky vistas, and glaciated mountain environments. The trail circles the mighty Mount Dhaulagiri (8,167m), the world's seventh highest peak, and passes alongside Tukuche Peak (6,920m), offering close-up and awe-inspiring views throughout. Beginning in the Pokhara region, the route heads northwest into the Kaligandaki River valley, passing through the riverside settlements of Tatopani and Beni before continuing toward Dhorpatan, Phedi, and Muri. Trekkers then traverse the left bank of the Myagdi Glacier to reach the base camp of Mount Dhaulagiri at approximately 4,750 meters, one of the most dramatic high-altitude camping experiences in Nepal. Crossing the legendary French Pass at 5,360 meters is a crowning highlight of the circuit and demands excellent physical fitness and acclimatization. Beyond the pass, the trek descends through Yak Kharka and Marpha before looping through Lete, Tatopani, Ghorepani, and the famous Poon Hill sunrise viewpoint. The final days lead through the charming Gurung village of Ghandruk before returning to Pokhara and onward to Kathmandu. Along the way, trekkers have the opportunity to visit Muktinath, a sacred pilgrimage site revered by both Hindus and Buddhists. The entire route is camping-based, making it a true wilderness experience far removed from the comforts of teahouse trekking. This circuit is best undertaken during spring (March–May) or autumn (September–November) when weather conditions are most stable and mountain views are clearest. The trek is not recommended for beginners and requires prior high-altitude hiking experience.

🌿 Cultural Note
The Dhaulagiri Circuit passes through communities of various ethnic groups including Magar, Gurung, and Thakali peoples. Muktinath, visited along the route, is one of the most sacred pilgrimage sites in Nepal for both Hindus and Buddhists, and visitors should dress respectfully and behave with reverence at religious sites. Tipping guides and porters, while not mandatory, is a deeply appreciated custom. Trekkers are welcomed with a traditional Khaada (ceremonial shawl) upon arrival, reflecting the warm hospitality central to Nepali culture.
