Himkala Adventure is a Kathmandu-based trekking company that leads group journeys through the Himalayas. We pioneered the city's first free walking tour, connecting travelers with Nepal's culture beyond the summit. We value authentic connection over rushed itineraries. Our guides are local, our groups are intimate, and we value safety as a paramount.

“I’m a beginner trekker, but Shiva made the Langtang trek feel possible. He was so patient and always checked in—“How are you feeling?” “Need a break?” “Almost there!” He never forgot to remind us about our things and made sure we were well prepared each day. Along the way, he pointed out langurs, yaks, and special places I would’ve missed on my own. Thanks to him, I felt supported the whole way and had an unforgettable journey to 4400m!”

“Me and my friend did the Manaslu Circuit trek trough himkala adventures, and it has been an amazing experience that we will remember for the rest of our lives. We were guided by two guides as one had a lot of experience with the trek, while the other would learn! And the more the merrier for us! The guides treated us like princesses, picked flowers for us, and have become friends for life. We had a lot of fun together, beautiful days of walking, learnt a lot about both the nepali and tibetan culture as the gudes had a lot of knowledge and urge to answer all of our questions. I deeply recommend traveling with himkala adventures❤️ thank you so much for everything and for making us feel safe during the magical but challenging trek”

“I did Annapurna Base Camp trekking with Himkala Adventure and it was absolutely fantastic experience!! It was my third trekking experience with Himkala Adventure. Shiva is a very caring knowledgeable guide and genuinely honest person. The trekking was personalized according to my available days and went smoothly with few options in case I needed to come back earlier. You will really have a great experience with Himkala Adventure!!”

“I was incredibly lucky to meet and trek with such an amazing group of people on the journey to Muldai. For me, it was a truly unique experience. The Muldai trek is an underrated gem it's on the shorter side, but the views are absolutely stunning. What really made it special, though, were the people. Shiva and his son, Sabinaya, are just fantastic; they were so much more than guides to me, and the whole group felt like a family. It was more than just a trek; it was a trip with people I felt genuinely close to🤩😍”

“The walking tour through Kathmandu was a truly enriching experience. Shiva’s deep knowledge and passion for his culture shine through in every story he shares. It felt less like a tour and more like being guided through the living history of the city by someone who genuinely cares. Thoughtfully structured and engaging, the tour offered a meaningful glimpse into the heart of Kathmandu. Can truly recommend it!”

“We did a 7day hiking tour with Himkala adventures. Starting together from Kathmandu with the bus to Pokhara, from there by jeep to Ghandrik. The following days we trekked via various beautiful trea houses from Tadapani to Dobato, Khopra Ridge with Khayer Lake to Ghorepani via Swanta and Poonhill. We had an amazing time, great conversations with our guide Sabinaya about Nepal's culture, history, everyday life, etc. Personal yet always professional. Thanks for that outstanding experience which we will never forget.”

“I had a great experience on this free walking tour in Nepal. The guide was extremely kind, attentive, and respectful throughout the entire tour. He took the time to explain the history, traditions, and culture behind each place we visited, and it was clear that he has a lot of knowledge and passion for Nepal. It was much more than just walking around the city — I learned a lot about the local culture and saw the places from a completely different perspective. I definitely recommend this tour to anyone who wants to understand Nepal beyond just the tourist attractions. Thank you for such a great experience!”

“I was traveling solo in Kathmandu and came across this free walking tour hosted by Shiva, and I’m really glad I joined it. The tour is about 4 hours long and covers most of the main tourist spots in the city, so it’s a great way to explore Kathmandu and understand its history and culture. Shiva is a very friendly and knowledgeable guide who explains everything in a really engaging and easy to understand way. The tour never felt boring, and I learned a lot while walking through the city. Even though it’s a free tour, it’s absolutely worth it and I would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Kathmandu, especially solo travelers. Arigatou gozaimasu! また会いましょう 😊”

“Sabinaya was communicative and helpful even before the tour started, which set a great tone. On the day itself, the other people who were supposed to join had flight delays and ended up canceling, so it turned into a private tour, just the two of us. What could have been a disappointment became one of the highlights of my entire trip. In just 2 to 3 hours, Sabinaya covered an extraordinary range of topics including Kathmandu's history, Hinduism, Nepali culture, and we even got into a fascinating conversation about AI and the wider world. He is genuinely curious and knowledgeable, and the conversation flowed naturally the whole way through. I would never have walked those history-filled streets on my own and come away with such a deep sense of the city's spirit. Kathmandu has an incredibly dynamic religious life, and Sabinaya gave me a real window into it. Not just the monuments, but the living, breathing culture behind them. It felt like a genuine peek into local life, not a tourist performance. The fact that this is free is remarkable. Please tip him well, he more than deserves it. Don't miss this if you're in Kathmandu.”

“My Kathmandu city tour with Shiva was an unforgettable experience and easily one of the most meaningful parts of my time in Nepal. What truly set this tour apart was the way Shiva explained the coexistence of Hinduism and Buddhism in Kathmandu. As we moved through ancient temples and sacred stupas, he carefully unpacked the history, symbols, and everyday practices of both faiths. He helped us see how the two religions are beautifully interwoven throughout the city — not just in architecture and shrines, but in the daily lives of the people. Shiva has a remarkable ability to make complex spiritual and historical concepts easy to understand and fascinating to learn about. Every carving, ritual, and monument suddenly had deeper meaning thanks to his thoughtful explanations. Rather than just guiding us from one landmark to another, he gave us real insight into Nepal’s spiritual harmony and cultural identity. Beyond his expertise, Shiva was kind, patient, and incredibly generous with his time. He welcomed all our questions and answered each one with care and enthusiasm. His warmth and pride in his city made the experience even more special. If you’re looking for a tour in Kathmandu that goes beyond surface-level sightseeing and offers true cultural understanding, Shiva is the guide to choose. We walked away enriched, inspired, and deeply grateful for the experience.”
