Plain-language answers about bookings, payments, cancellations, and more.
These answers reflect how the platform works today. Some policies are still being finalised β answers may be updated as we complete that process.
Your card is not charged when you send a Request to Book. At that point we only authorise the card (a temporary hold) so the host knows payment is ready. The actual charge only goes through once the host accepts your dates β or once you accept an alternate date they propose. If the host declines or doesn't respond within 24 hours, the hold is released automatically and nothing is charged.
Every listing has one of three cancellation tiers set by the host. The default (used when no tier is set) is Moderate. Flexible: full refund if you cancel 24+ hours before arrival; no refund within 24 hours. Moderate: full refund if you cancel 7+ days before arrival; 50% refund if you cancel 2β6 days before; no refund within 48 hours. Strict: full refund if you cancel 14+ days before arrival; 50% refund if you cancel 7β13 days before; no refund within 7 days. The exact policy for a listing is shown on its listing page before you book.
Yes. Once you send a request, the host has 24 hours to accept, propose alternate dates, or decline. During that window your card is on hold but not charged. If the host doesn't respond in time, the hold drops off automatically.
If you don't arrive and haven't cancelled, the booking is treated as a no-show and the full payment is non-refundable. If there are extenuating circumstances, contact us at support@nepaluntrodden.com and we'll try to help, but we can't guarantee a refund in no-show cases.
Listings are priced in USD or NPR (Nepalese Rupees) by the host. GBP and USD travellers pay in their native currency where Stripe supports it directly. For other currencies (EUR, JPY, CNY, etc.) the charge is processed in USD at the exchange rate shown at the time of booking. The rate shown to you is locked for 24 hours from when you view the booking summary.
Email dispute@nepaluntrodden.com with your booking reference and a clear description of the issue. We acknowledge all dispute emails within 24 hours. For issues that don't require a formal dispute (e.g. a host is slow to respond), try support@nepaluntrodden.com first.
Yes. All payments are processed through Stripe, a globally trusted payment provider that is PCI-DSS compliant. Nepal Untrodden never stores your card number. Funds are only released to the host after your booking is confirmed β not before.
Nepal Untrodden strongly recommends comprehensive travel insurance that includes emergency medical evacuation for all trekking activities, particularly at high altitude. Some listings specify insurance as a requirement.
Permit requirements depend on the area. Common permits include the TIMS card (required for most treks) and area-specific permits such as ACAP for the Annapurna region or restricted-area permits for Mustang. Your host will advise what is needed for your specific trek.
Yes. All hosts are individually verified before their listing goes live. Trekking guides and agencies must hold current Nepal Tourism Board or TAAN accreditation, which we verify during onboarding.
Nepal Untrodden charges a small service fee to travellers, applied at checkout. The exact percentage is shown in the price breakdown on every listing before you book. During the current alpha phase, there is zero commission charged to hosts.
